Cybersecurity related to COVID-19

Even in times of uncertainty, criminals are preying on your fear and sending all kinds of scams related to the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Be aware and be cautious.
Emails that appear to be from organizations such as the CDC (Centers for Disease Control), or the WHO (World Health Organization) may contain malicious phishing links or dangerous attachments.
Emails may ask for charity donations for studies, doctors, or victims. Scammers often create fake charity emails after global phenomenon’s occur, like natural disasters, or health scares.
Watch out for emails that claim to have a “new” or “updated” list of COVID-19 cases in your area. They may contain dangerous links and information designed to scare you into clicking on the link.
Always check the sender’s email address and hover over links before clicking them.
ProPrivacy, an advocacy group, created a website to check the trustworthiness of coronavirus-themed websites. If your email app warns of a suspicious message, don’t just shrug it off. Make sure your computer and phone have the latest security updates and that your home network is password protected.
So even in times of crisis, remain cautious and always remember to protect yourself from scams and never click on links or download attachments from an email you were not expecting.
